Montague Winter Parking Ban in Effect as of December 1, 2022

A winter parking ban will be in effect on all Montague streets December 2022 to April 1, 2023 from 1am to 5am. Overnight parking is allowed in municipal lots and special accommodations are made for winter overnight parking in specific sections of Turners Falls and The Patch neighborhood. No permit is required, but the rules are specific relative to which areas are affected. Please see below for those details!!

On 11/7/2022, the Montague Selectboard adopted a new regulation to ease winter parking challenges for residents of downtown Turners Falls. The new regulation was requested by downtown residents, landlords and businesses and is an outcome of the 2021 Downtown Parking Management Study. Details are as follow

A. The Superintendent of Public Works is authorized to declare a Winter Emergency whereby no overnight parking is allowed on streets in downtown Turners Falls or the Patch neighborhood between the hours of 11:00PM and 6:00AM.

B. A winter emergency may include snow and/or ice events and can be in effect for multiple days, at the discretion of the Superintendent of Public Works.

C. The Town of Montague website (www.montague-ma.gov) shall be the official record of the winter emergency status. Check there for notices when inclement weather is in the forecast!

D. Vehicles may utilize parking on downtown streets during all other times including during overnight hours, provided a winter emergency is not in effect.

E. Public Parking during a Winter Emergency is available at the municipal lots on 1st street, 3rd Street, Discovery Center, Canal Street, 6th Street, and on the odd-numbered side of L Street between Prospect Street and 5th Street. The Department of Public Works is authorized to publicly post, in each parking area, parking restrictions to allow for lot cleanup following a Winter Emergency.

F. The town wide winter parking ban remains in effect for all areas of Montague outside of the downtown area as shown on the map published at /news/newsfile_221_Downtown_Winter_Parking_Zone_Map.pdf.

G. The Montague Police Department is authorized to enforce this regulation.
